Frequently asked questions

Questions before you start? Here are the answers.

Straightforward answers about the free check, what happens after you send it, your information and your other options.

Starting a check

Before you press submit

Is the claim check really free?

Yes. MFCC does not charge you to complete and send the online claim check.

What if I do not know the exact date or provider?

Give the best information you genuinely remember. The forms use approximate periods, optional fields and “Not sure” choices where appropriate. Do not guess just to complete the form.

Which claim type should I choose?

Choose the financial product involved: car finance, pension, investment, packaged bank account or guarantor loan. If none clearly fits, use the “Other / not sure” route.

Does the form tell me immediately that I am eligible?

No. Some answers can help organise the enquiry, but MFCC does not use them to promise that you have a valid complaint or will receive compensation.

After submission

What happens to the enquiry?

Who receives my enquiry?

The final step names the claims firm that will receive your enquiry and shows the consent information before you send it.

Am I signing up to a paid service when I submit?

No. You’re sending the enquiry to the claims firm named on the form so it can review what happened. If it can help, it should explain the service and any fees before you agree to go ahead.

How will I be contacted?

The form asks how you would prefer to be contacted and, if you choose phone, the best time to call. The claims firm named at the final step can then contact you about this enquiry in line with the consent and privacy information shown to you.

What if the receiving firm cannot help?

The firm may need more information, or it may decide the enquiry isn’t something it can help with. Sending the form doesn’t guarantee that your case will be taken on.

Your information

Data, consent and corrections

What information is saved?

When you submit, we keep a record of your answers, contact details, consent and submission information. The Privacy Notice explains what is kept, why it is used and how long it is retained.

Can I correct or ask for my information?

Yes. Use the privacy contact details in the Privacy Notice for access, correction, deletion or other data-protection requests.

Does MFCC run a credit search?

MFCC doesn’t run a credit search when you complete the form. If the claims firm wants to carry out any separate search later, it should explain that to you first.

Do I have to agree to unrelated marketing?

No. The consent on the form is for dealing with this enquiry. Unrelated marketing needs separate permission.

Costs & alternatives

Your choices after the free check

Could I be charged if my enquiry is taken forward?

Yes. The MFCC check is free, but the claims firm may charge for a service if you choose to go ahead. It should explain the fees and cancellation terms before you agree.

Do I need a claims management company?

No. You can complain to the relevant financial business yourself for free. Depending on the circumstances, the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme may also be available without a claims-management fee.

Where can I see the fee information?

See the Fees & your options page for a plain-English explanation. If the claims firm can help, it should show you the fee information before you agree to anything.

What if I don’t want to go any further after the check?

That’s fine. Sending the check does not mean you have to take up a paid service. If you later agree to a service, the terms and cancellation rights in that agreement will apply.
